Southern California is home to some of the world’s best chocolate so I thought I’d share 5 of the best chocolatiers in Los Angeles. Whether you’re shopping for Valentine’s Day, Easter, that special someone… or you just want to treat yourself to some amazing confections, these shops are sure to satisfy your sweet tooth!
Diane Kron Chocolates – Beverly Hills
These crunchy little K Bears, coated with the best chocolate are their signature item. If you want to give them a try, you’ll need to actually visit them at their Beverly Hills or Malibu locations or call the store and arrange for them to ship your order… no online shopping for Diane Kron chocolates. (But I promise, it’s worth the time spent on a phone call.)
Compartes – Los Angeles
Handmade in small batches from premium gourmet chocolate and all natural organic ingredients, these gourmet confections are true chocolate works of edible art. This chocolatier has a celebrity clientele and his chocolate was named one of Oprah’s favorite things for this year. (She was probably referring to these magnificent truffles.)
Edelweiss Chocolates – Beverly Hills
Edelweiss Chocolates has been a Beverly Hills tradition since 1942. They began producing their gourmet chocolates at their current Beverly Hills factory during the Golden Age of Hollywood and became an instant hit with Hollywood royalty. From Frank Sinatra (whose favorite chocolates were the Maple Creams) to Nancy Reagan, Lauren Bacall and Katherine Hepburn (who wrote in her autobiography, “Me,” about the Dark Chocolate Turtles). Even though they cater to the Hollywood elite and corporate executives, Edelweiss is known for giving the same careful attention to every customer.
John Kelly Chocolates – Santa Monica
John Kelly’s confections are all amazing, but their signature item is called Truffle Fudge. Combine the creaminess of a truffle with the intense, rich flavor of fudge, then dip it in gourmet chocolate and sprinkle with exotic sea salts. Truly an amazing confection. You can visit either the Santa Monica or Los Angeles location, or you can order online.
Jin Patisserie – Venice
Flight attendant turned confectionery rock star, Kristy Choo’s amazing cakes and chocolates were inspired by frequent trips to Japan. Her exotic travels and subsequent training from San Francisco’s Culinary Academy result in delicious creations like the toasted sesame, caramel clove, Grand Marnier and lemon grass truffles. Kristy’s inventive flavor combinations and Jin Patisserie’s friendly service makes this shop an extra special treat.
