Last night my husband Don Diamont and I made the trip to Tampa, Florida to attend the DeBartolo Family Foundation‘s annual All Star Charity Gala. We had high expectations after attending the 2015 All Star Charity Gala and this year’s event did not disappoint!
We started off a weekend of festivities at a fun pre-event party where were able to meet legendary baseball pitcher, Tommy John. Tommy had 288 career victories rank as the seventh highest total among left-handers in major league history.
It was also a pleasure to meet actor Buck Taylor, who is best known for his role as Newly O’Brien on the original Gunsmoke series.
For the past 13 years the DeBartolo Family Foundation has hosted the All Star Charity Gala to raise funds to support their philanthropic endeavors. Since 2001, the Foundation has given hope to many less fortunate individuals and groups in the Tampa Bay area and beyond. The Foundation annually awards scholarships to high school students, provides school supplies to local teachers, provides grants to organizations with exceptional requirements and presents the Spirit of Humanity Award, honoring local non-profit, grass roots organizations. Edward J DeBartolo Jr. was the successful owner of the San Francisco 49ers for 23 years so the Foundation also adopts Bay Area families during the holidays. You can find the details about their generous programs here.
The guest list for the All Star Charity Gala is a who’s who of football royalty.
We were both thrilled to meet the Superbowl legends!
Dinner was an amazing five course meal with fantastic wine.
And if anyone was still hungry after that lovely meal, they could enjoy a wonderful midnight snack: PDQ Chicken strips and amazing milkshakes!
We do not have PDQs in Southern California, so we will have to wait until next year’s All Star Charity Gala to get another PDQ milkshake.
Thank you to the DeBartolo Family Foundation for all that they do for our communities and congratulations on another successful event!
