Behind the Scenes & Up Close: Shooting a Luxury Home Tour with NBC

Everyone loves to take a peek inside beautiful luxury homes, and the next best thing to actually being there often comes in the form of a video tour. When the producers of NBC’s Open House asked me to take them on a tour of 1135 Rivas Canyon Road in Pacific Palisades I was very happy to do so.

Behind the scenes at 1135 Rivas Canyon Road video tour

This 14,000 square foot home has been thoughtfully designed and no detail has been overlooked. From the floors to the ceilings, I am so happy that video will capture some of the close up details and finishes that make this estate so special.

Starting at the front door, a hand carved Portuguese antique door has been set into a pivot door frame. The result is a spectacular first impression.

The estate is built in a U shape; a classic Palladian architectural arrangement, with the more formal living spaces to the left and the casual spaces to the right. The formal living areas are spacious, yet connected, intimate and cozy.

Stunning living room design with coffered ceiling, Ralph Lauren vintage tiles on the fireplace and floor to ceiling windows.

What isn’t as easy to see from the listing photos are the vintage Ralph Lauren tiles, Capiz chandelier, incredible mahogany ceilings and vintage oak floor in a herringbone pattern.

These adjacent formal spaces are thoughtfully designed, with a balance of dark and light finishes.

Amazing coffered ceiling, moldings and trim work in this luxury living room.

These rooms are formal, yet approachable and welcoming.

On the right-hand side of home are the casual living spaces and the kitchen.

Stunning white kitchen with tin ceiling, galvanized metal hood and transom window.

The clean lines of the custom Porta Bella cabinetry and hardware, along with the classic white center island and neutral color palette allow the intricate tile ceiling to really pop.

The kitchen boasts an electronic transom window, gorgeous farmhouse sink and high end stainless steel appliances. A whimsical chandelier and amazing tile work add designer touches to the heart of the house.

Luxury kitchen details

Adjacent to the kitchen is the Morning Bar, a wonderful place to enjoy a cappuccino or latte. It is also equipped with a state of the art air filtration system, so it would also be a wonderful place to enjoy after dinner brandy and cigars. Leather wrapped walls, gorgeous woodwork and leather edge bar create a luxe and inviting space.

There is a lovely family room adjacent to the kitchen as well, and it comes complete with its own Teppanyaki and pizza oven. This beautiful oven is the focal point of the room and features gorgeous antique mosaic tile work.

From the master bedroom foyer, which boasts vintage white oak from the ceiling to the floor and a gorgeous light fixture, one can access the sumptuous and beautifully designed bathrooms and dressing areas.

The lighter, more feminine bath features 50 linear feet of closet space, a walk in closet, huge soaking tub, a large shower and beautiful hand painted tiles.

The more masculine bath features gorgeous wood detail, plenty of closet space and a spectacular Japanese soaking tub and mosaic feature wall.

With 8 bedrooms and 12 bathrooms, there are a lot of surfaces to cover and the finishes to choose from. Here are a few of my favorites. They include gorgeous tiles, vintage wood, reclaimed materials and even a suede wrapped banister on the second floor landing!

Luxury finishes - tile, wallpaper, suede and wood.

The ceilings in this home are especially impressive. My favorite? The coffered ceiling in the home’s study that features quilted leather inserts and nail-head trim. Amazing!

This gorgeous estate also sports some pretty incredible light fixtures!

High end light fixtures and chandeliers

I am particularly fond of this amazing chandelier. Made from agate slices, it hangs high above the entry and is an incredible statement piece. It is a beautiful focal point from the stair landing.

Gorgeous agate slice chandelier.

As you can see, this amazing estate is brimming with high end design, gorgeous finishes and the promise of a luxury California lifestyle, but perhaps one of the best things about this property? The neighbors.

Horse property in Pacific Palisades

1135 Rivas Canyon is zoned for horses. While shooting the video tour, we were so happy to have a few of our equestrian friends stop by for a visit! This property spans almost 3.5 acres and is situated near riding trails and feels incredibly private and secluded.

I hope you enjoyed this little sneak peek into our upcoming video tour! For more information about this stunning property, please visit the listing page.
