I recently had the opportunity to attend a luncheon presented by Every Mother Counts, an organization founded by Christy Turlington. My friend Maryl Georgi, the founder of Anymatic and I attended together.

Every Mother Counts is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to making pregnancy and childbirth safe for every mother. Every Mother Counts informs, engages, and mobilizes new audiences to take actions and raise funds that support maternal health programs around the world.
With funds raised, Every Mother Counts supports programs that improve access to comprehensive maternity care in Haiti, Uganda, Malawi, Indonesia, India, Tanzania, The Democratic Republic of Congo, and the United States.
At the luncheon, we learned about the organization’s mission and the work they are doing both here in the United States and around the world. Did you know that every two minutes a woman dies from complications during childbirth and pregnancy, and up to 98% of those deaths are preventable? Every Mother Counts strives to reduce those statistics by supporting a variety of organizations and programs that aim to improve prenatal care and provide resources for pregnant women.
In addition to founding Every Mother Counts, Christy Turlington also directed a 2010 documentary, No Woman No Cry, that explores the stories and statistics surrounding childbirth. You can download the movie from iTunes.
