Last week I attended the Realtor.com Results Summit in Las Vegas, where I had the privilege to speak about social responsibility and the importance of giving back.
Real estate is a service oriented business, so providing a service to those in need is a natural extension of what we are already inclined to do. The key to giving back and being joyfully involved in a cause is passion. What are you passionate about? What is your why?
When you get involved with charity work it has to be your passion. It has to energize you, inspire you, and fulfill you. You may not know, but my husband and I have seven boys. That’s right – seven. To say that I am passionate about the lives of these young men is an understatement. Don and I are very involved in everything they do, so naturally we learn a lot about their sports, their hobbies, and their studies.
When I learned that the arts programs in many schools were being cut, I was very disappointed. Studies have shown the importance of art education and how it impacts a child’s life. Higher scores on achievement tests, improved skills in cognition, problem solving and innovation, and more likely to stay in school to name just a few of the benefits. PS Arts‘ sole purpose is to provide art education to under-served schools in the Los Angeles area.
My passion for my children made PS Arts a natural fit. Express Yourself is one of their best known and most popular fundraisers held annually at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica. It is a celebration of children, art and creativity.
PS Arts does a fabulous job of bringing the funds back into the schools for art programs and I am happy to be able to support this amazing organization. We all have the ability and quite frankly, the responsibility to make a difference in the world. I’m grateful for the opportunity to have shared PS Arts with the audience at the Results Summit. I am also so pleased to announce that each attendee was given the opportunity to make a donation and we raised more than $3,000 in support of PS Arts.
What’s your passion and how does it inspire you to give back?
