Home Decor Trends for Fall: Velvet

Home decor trends for fall: Velvet

As the weather cools this fall, add warmth to your home decor with luxurious velvet textiles and home accents. You can go bold or keep it muted, but the velvet trend is one not to be missed.

Just like on the runway, velvets are heating up again. You can now find them in more colors than ever. Charcoal gray velvet with a luster has a wonderful depth to it and is a classic. Ocher and green have been weaving their way into many schemes I am working on, as they bring a grounded, earthy feel to a space, while the texture makes it opulent. A dash of pulsing-hot pink velvet can jazz up a space quickly. You can find matte linen and cotton velvets and incredibly lustrous silk velvets. All of them are fantastic, but it is best not to use them all in one space. — Sara Gilbane Sullivan, interior designer

Here are a few of my favorite velvet pieces.

LUNA Bench by Koket

This gorgeous velvet bench has smooth lines to match the smooth texture of the velvet finish. This champagne colored piece would make a great addition to the bedroom. The design was inspired by the crescent moon, which form arms on either side of the bench, and give the product its name, Luna.

The price starts at $129 per pillow.

West Elm is calling velvet “one of our favorite fabrics of the season”. Their luster velvet has a beautiful, subtle sheen, pictured here in the Platinum hue. They weave a blend of pure cotton yarn with luxurious textured threads to create this fabric. Their duvet covers and shams are a fabulous way to envelope yourself in velvet this fall. Prices for the sets vary, but expect to pay around $200 for the complete package.

Add a pop of color to any room in your house with this brightly hued ottoman. The contrast of texture between the velvet and the plinth base is modern and elegant. Group multiples of these to create fun seating in a child’s playroom, or use just one to make a design statement. The ottoman in available in a variety of colors and is priced at $172.
