It’s Farmers Market time! Have you been to Santa Monica’s Farmers’ Markets? If you’re looking for reasonably priced, high quality or certified organic produce, this is your place. And if you’re looking for a nice excursion and some entertainment, this is your place too!
The markets set up in 4 different locations around Santa Monica:
The Wednesday Downtown location is open from 8:30 – 1:30 and is on Arizona Avenue between 4th and Ocean. The Wednesday Market has been around since 1981 is recognized as being one of the largest and most diverse Certified Farmers’ Markets in the nation. Many chefs and restaurants in the Los Angeles area buy their produce and even base their menus on the fresh, seasonal produce that can be found at the Markets.
The Saturday Downtown location is also on Arizona Avenue, but is located between 4th and 2nd streets. It is often referred to as The Organic Market and it boasts the largest percentage of Certified Organic growers of the City’s four markets. 8:30 to 1:00 are the hours for this market.
The Saturday Pico Market is located at 2220 Virginia Avenue, right where Pico Blvd and Cloverfield Blvd meet. There are free cooking classes at this location They are offered in partnership with the non-profit Center for Community and Family Services, which has the use of a kitchen located adjacent to the market. Its hours are from 8:00 – 1:00.
The Sunday Main St. Market was developed in collaboration with the local business district association, Ocean Park resident group and property partners the Victorian and Heritage Museum. In addition to selling high quality produce, the Sunday market also features food booths, retail businesses from the local business district, live music, arts and crafts, and activities for children, such as face-painting, and pony rides. It is located at 2640 Main street in Heritage Square from 9:30 – 1:00.
