I love to travel! I love to see new sights and meet new people. What I don’t particularly love are long flights that can sap your energy and wear down your immune system. Here are some of my “must have” travel essentials for long flights. These items ensure I am as comfortable as possible when traveling.
First of all, you shouldn’t wear heavy make-up when traveling. Bring a few light cosmetics that you can apply right before landing, but in order to look your best, you need to take care of your skin on the flight. It’s so important to keep hydrated! Recirculated airplane air isn’t great to begin with. 20 hours of it will dry out your skin. Keep moisturized, keep moisturized, keep moisturized.
I always take Dermalogica’s Dry Skin Kit with me when I travel.
This kit contains a complete product regimen to help replenish hydration levels to relieve dryness, flakiness and fine lines, and is travel sized, so it is perfect for skin care on the go. I am also a huge fan of the Lancer Method products and I refuse to travel without them.
There are some great hydrating mists on the market as well. These are always nice and refreshing.
These are all fabulous mists for your skin. Every so often through out your flight, give your face a light spritz with one of these products and you’ll feel much better.
In addition to these products to take care of your skin, you’ll want a well-stocked amenity kit. Essentials for me include:
- toothbrush set
- eye mask
- nasal spray
- 100% Argan Oil (for mixing with face or hand creams)
Dressing comfortably is key. The temperature on the plane seems like it can go from way too warm to freezing cold in a matter of minutes, so I make sure to always dress in layers. A comfortable tank top with a long sleeve cotton J. Crew sweater and a light jacket are my wardrobe essentials when traveling. I always bring a pashmina scarf and cozy socks too.
Along with these wardrobe essentials, I always like to add a bit of luxurious comfort to really long trips with this 100% knitted wool travel blanket and eye mask from Frette. It’s a splurge item but is so worth it. It comes in this lovely travel bag as well.
If you go on a trip of a lifetime, don’t you want to arrive at your destination refreshed and ready to enjoy every moment?
I also want to make sure I stay healthy for the entire trip. That means I get some sleep on the plane (the eye mask helps, as do ear plugs) but it also means I eat healthy snacks and stay hydrated. Great protein bars include Zone Bars, and Supreme Bars, and I love protein meal replacement foods as well. Garden of Life’s Raw Meal is fantastic, full of vitamins and minerals, probiotics, live enzymes and fiber. I also love Garden of Life’s Perfect Food RAW Organic Green Super Food. Think of it as raw veggie juice, but it comes in single serve packets, perfect to take on the plane. These are great options to keep with you and a super healthy alternative to airplane food (even in First Class!) It’s also very important to stay hydrated. There are great water bottles like this one from 321 Water that has a built in filter so you can even drink tap water if it comes right down to it.Don't you want to arrive at your destination refreshed and ready to enjoy every moment?Click To Tweet
So once I’m comfortable and relaxed, what else do I need? Entertainment, of course!
I make sure to have plenty of movies and music downloaded to my computer and I always have a few great magazines. (CSQ and Forbes are favorites.) It never hurts to have an extra power source. There are several great options for portable battery chargers here. The last thing you want is to have your battery die in the middle of a movie with 10 more hours of travel time ahead of you!
How about you? What are your “must-have” items when it comes to air travel?
